5 Health Benefits of Iced Tea

It’s National Iced Tea Day and I thought, why not talk about the health benefits of iced tea today. National Iced Tea is celebrated on the 10th of June every year. It is a day set aside to celebrate tea and its awesome benefits.

What is Iced Tea?

Iced tea (or ice tea) is a form of cold tea. Although it is usually served in a glass with ice, it can refer to any tea that has been chilled or cooled. It may be sweetened with sugar, syrup and/or apple slices. Iced tea is also a popular packaged drink which can be mixed with flavored syrup and with multiple common flavors including lemon, apple, raspberry, passion fruit, strawberry or cherry. I don’t know about you, but I have had some of the popular packaged iced teas and they were absolutely amazing. While I loved drinking them, I was unaware that there were health benefits attached.

Iced Tea keeps you hydrated

Do you know that dizziness, lightheadedness, and tiredness are symptoms of dehydration and, if allowed to persist, can cause other serious problems? I wouldn’t want to put it straight out there but yeah, I guess I’ll just do that. Next time you’re feeling tired or dizzy, take a cup of iced tea or at least get yourself a glass of water. Hydration is essential not only for your body but your brain as well and one of the best ways to keep hydrated asides water, is through the intake of iced tea. What makes it seem to be better than water can be found in the next point.

Iced tea contains antioxidants

Antioxidants are phytochemicals or chemicals that protect healthy tissues from oxidants, also called free radicals. These free radicals can damage cells and cause diseases. Examples of antioxidants are vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, etc, that can be found in vegetables and fruits. Remember our description of iced tea? Iced tea is made with fruits and plants which are contained in the tea bag. Now when you take iced tea, you also consume these antioxidants which are very good for the body. What are you still waiting for? Iced tea wayyyy.
